HARRISONBURG — A Mount Crawford man died Thursday night after wrecking his truck in southern Rockingham County. A passenger who was in the vehicle is in Rockingham Memorial Hospital.
Sgt. Les Tyler of the Virginia State Police, said James Edward Harris, 47, was traveling westbound on East Timber Ridge Road in his 1977 Chevrolet pickup, about a half-mile west of Leroy Road near Mount Crawford, when he entered a curve, ran off the road, hit an embankment and overturned. Emergency personnel responded at about 8 p.m..
Tyler said Harris was ejected from the vehicle. He was taken to RMH, where he died around 9:30 p.m, Tyler said. The vehicle’s passenger, John Edward Harris Jr., 30, of Mount Crawford, was also taken to RMH. Tyler said his condition is unknown. Tyler could not confirm whether the men are related.
While the crash remains under investigation, Tyler said, it appears as if alcohol and speed were factors.
