HARRISONBURG — The city and Rockingham County are working on “minor tweaks” to improve an emergency test message system, Harrisonburg Fire Chief Larry Shifflett said in a press release Monday.
Earlier this month, residents were alerted that there was a tornado going through the area as part of the statewide tornado drill. The goal was to determine the efficiency of the process and to see if the system worked successfully, the press release says.
About 13,000 telephone numbers received the message.
“Overall, sending the test message was a success,” Shifflett said. “We are now working to make minor tweaks on improving the efficiency of getting the message out and to continue our education campaign in the community.”
