HARRISONBURG — A leader in a large drug distribution ring in Rockingham and Augusta counties will spend 12 ½ years in federal prison.

U.S. District Judge Michael Urbanski sentenced Daniel “Doc” Walker, 39, for conspiracy to distribute drugs in federal court in Harrisonburg on Thursday. Walker was indicted with six others in December for taking part in a large-scale methamphetamine and cocaine distribution ring.

Walker distributed the illegal narcotics from 2001 to 2013, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office. He lived in Staunton at the beginning and moved to Harrisonburg at some point.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Drew Smith said 300 to 500 pounds of meth was moved in the conspiracy, and Walker ranks second or “1b”  in culpability among the seven co-defendants.
