NEW: County Might Get Additional Judges
Study Shows Additional Judges Needed Throughout The Valley
HARRISONBURG — The Shenandoah Valley — particularly Harrisonburg and Rockingham County — could get new judges.
This year’s proposed budget in Virginia’s House and Senate include funding for two new circuit judgeships and one general district court judge in the 26th judicial district, which includes Clark, Frederick, Page, Rockingham, Shenandoah and Warren counties, and the cities of Harrisonburg and Winchester.
Sen. Mark Obenshain, R-Harrisonburg, said additional judges are needed in the area. He said the case loads are putting a strain on the judges.
“They’re working themselves to death,” said Obenshain. “Its not fair. Being a judge should be the pinnacle of their career. However, our judges have just risen to the occasion with smiles on their faces.”
