ELKTON — No one was injured, but the driver was shaken up Monday morning after his passenger van crashed into the Elkton post office.
McGaheysville resident Lester Samuels, who is wheelchair-bound, was at the gas pumps at Meadows Service Center when he began backing up his vehicle. The gear stuck and the van continued across Rockingham Street into the southwest corner of the post office, he said.
The incident occurred shortly after 11 a.m.
No one was injured in the crash, but Samuels was cited for defective equipment, Elkton Police Chief Aaron Hammer said.
“The hand control for the throttle was defective and stuck,” Hammer said.
J.N. Riddle, a building inspector with Rockingham County, said a decorative corner piece was dislodged from the post office.
A parking lot curb was also moved and a planter smashed.
