A roughly 40-year-old farm employee was flown to a hospital tonight after being attacked by a buffalo, according to Page County Fire and Rescue.

Firefighter Justin Lucas said emergency crews responded to an IBR Corp. farm on Big Oak Road, near Luray, around 7 p.m.

He said a few buffalo got loose from the farm and an employee went into the roadway to herd up the animals to prevent a traffic hazard. One of the buffalo took aim at the employee.

"It charged him and struck him in his right leg with his horn," said Lucas.

Front Royal-based AirCare 4 landed nearby and flew the man to a nearby hospital.

Medics say he sustained a roughly foot-long laceration on his leg.
