An early morning fire destroyed a home in Mauerertown.

Multiple fire departments responded to the blaze at the home located at 24771 Old Valley Pike around 4 a.m.

Officials with Shenandoah County Fire and Rescue say firefighters battled the blaze from the outside for 35 to 40 minutes before going inside to knock out pockets of fire in the attic.

The  two-story home was believed to be unoccupied at the time of the blaze, firefighters say.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Old Valley Pike, from Fehr Lane to Zion Church Road, was closed while firefighters fought the fire.

In addition to Shenandoah County Fire and Rescue, firefighters from Toms Brook, Strasburg and Woodstock responded to the blaze.
