ELKTON — Firefighters are battling a structure fire at a home on Berrytown Road outside of Elkton.

A 911 caller told dispatchers that a bedroom was on fire and that a pet dog may be trapped by the blaze.

Fire officials say a man and a woman made it out of the home unharmed along with their 2-year-old twin boys. There's no word yet on the fate of the dog.

Officials say the woman saw smoke in one of the bedrooms and went to get her husband. When she returned with him, they saw flames and got themselves and their children out of the house.

Firefighters from Rockingham County Fire-Rescue, McGaheysville and Elkton are fighting the fire.

The Daily News-Record will update this story as details become available, and will have a complete report in Thursday’s print and online versions.
