Virginia Department of Housing and Community Development Deputy Director Lisa Atkinson presents the Private Investment Milestone Achievement award to Harrisonburg Vice Mayor Charlie Chenault and Assistant City Manager Anne Lewis.

Harrisonburg Downtown Renaissance and the City of Harrisonburg received a Virginia Main Street Milestone Achievement Award.

The recognition was received because of the  85,000 volunteer hours put toward the downtown revitalization and for creating an environment that led to $55 million in private investment in the city’s historic commercial district.

The awards were presented at Richmond’s Hippodrome Theater on Wednesday.

“We are delighted to be award recipients of the Virginia Main Street Milestone Awards again this year,” says Eddie Bumbaugh, Executive Director of Harrisonburg Downtown Renaissance. “This recognition speaks volumes to the high level of commitment that our city officials, property owners, businesses, and community members have made to downtown’s revitalization.”
