Harrisonburg police continue to search for a man responsible for several commercial break-ins at businesses along East Market Street.
Sgt. Jason Kidd of the Harrisonburg Police Department said that from mid-February through Monday, officers responded to numerous commercial burglaries in the area of the 1700 block of East Market Street. Several of the businesses were in and around the Spotswood Square Shopping Center.
He also said there have been reports of commercial burglaries in other areas of the city during that same timeframe. He said it appears that most of the break-ins take place during the nighttime hours.
Kidd said that the suspect or suspects committed property damage and stole items from the businesses.
He said the break-ins appear to be similar to burglaries that took place in late-December, when three businesses in the area of the 1600 block of East Market Street were burglarized.
No one was charged in those break-ins. Police believe the same person or persons might be responsible for both rash of break-ins.
Today, police released photographs obtained from surveillance footage from some of the businesses.
Kidd declined to say what businesses were broken into.
Police say the suspect appears to be about 5 feet, 8 inches tall and heavyset. He was seen wearing a tan jacket, jeans, tan boots - possibly Timberland brand, - and a black beanie.
