City Councilman Charles Chenault has announced he will not seek re-election to another four-year term in office this fall.
Chenault, 61, was first elected in 2004 as a Republican, but lost his re-election bid in 2008. He then successfully ran as an independent in 2010.
He did not want to elaborate on his decision not to run again, saying he hasn’t time to gather his thoughts yet.
Chenault and Mayor Ted Byrd are up for re-election to the five-person council in November. Byrd, a Republican, is running again.
