NEW: Man Charged In Monday Night Shooting Death
Victim Shot Once In Torso, Police Say
The Shenandoah County Sheriff’s Office arrested a Fort Valley man and charged him with voluntary manslaughter this morning in Monday night's shooting death of a 36-year-old Winchester man.
Daniel Scott Harvey, 33, of 600 Stephens Lane, was arrested after sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to Harvey’s residence late Monday to investigate a report of a shooting. The victim, Harry Grant Nelson III, was shot once in the torso, according to Shenandoah County Sheriff Tim Carter. Nelson was transported to Shenandoah Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead a short time later.
Harvey suffered “trauma” to his head and torso, Carter said, but added that those injuries were sustained after the shooting. It’s not clear how Harvey was hurt, but Carter noted that a small group of people were at the home at the time of the incident.
Carter said the shooting was prompted by a domestic-related incident involving another person, but he would not provide further details on the relationship between that person and the suspect and victim, or what type of incident preceded the shooting. He also would not say what kind of gun was used to shoot Nelson.
Harvey is being held without bond in the Shenandoah County Jail on a charge of voluntary manslaughter. He is expected to appear in Shenandoah County General District Court on April 11.
