A Bridgewater man was flown to the hospital this afternoon after jumping from a vehicle in town.

Chief Joe Simmons of the Bridgewater Police Department said emergency crews responded to the intersection of Green and Main streets around 12:45 p.m.

He said a man and woman got into a domestic dispute at a home on Penny Lane. The man then left the residence and walked toward Turner Ashby High School.

At some point, he said, the woman picked him and began to drive him to the police department to discuss the dispute.

As the car turned onto Green Street, Simmons said, the 23-year-old man jumped from the vehicle.

Simmons said the man, whose name has not been released yet, sustained head trauma.

Pegasus, a medical helicopter, landed in a field nearby to pick up the patient. He was then flown to the University of Virginia Medical Center with serious injuries.

Police are waiting to notify his next of kin before releasing the victim's name.
