New Market Woman Dies In Crash

HARRISONBURG — A New Market woman died this morning in a crash along North Valley Pike, north of Harrisonburg, according to the Virginia State Police.
Emergency crews responded the crash near the intersection of Old Sawmill Road and U.S. 11 around 9 a.m. U.S. 11 is North Valley Pike in that area.
Sgt. Les Tyler of the VSP said a 1997 Ford pickup truck driven by Paul Michael Allebaugh, 64, of Harrisonburg, was traveling northbound when he ran off the road to the right. He overcorrected, swerved into the southbound lane and hit a 1993 Oldsmobile passenger car head on driven by Violet Marie Nelson, 78, according to Tyler
Nelson died at the scene, the trooper said.
Allebaugh was flown to the University of Virginia Medical Center with unspecified injuries.
