HARRISONBURG — A presentation on the controversial and emotional subject of medical marijuana will be held Monday night in the chambers of Harrisonburg City Council.
Melissa Crowder Rhoden, an English faculty member at Blue Ridge Community College and member of the group Virginia Parents for Medical Marijuana, will be the speaker, according to a press release from the Harrisonburg Democratic Committee.
Crowder Rhoden’s 3-year-old daughter Lucy suffers from Dravet syndrome, a form of epilepsy that begins in infancy that can cause seizures.
In order to combat the seizures, Crowder Rhoden wants to have the option of treating Lucy with cannabis oil, which is outlawed by both Virginia and federal law.
Monday’s event begins at 7 p.m. at 409 S. Main St. It is sponsored by the Democratic organizations of Harrisonburg, Rockingham County and James Madison University.
