NEW: Motorcyclist In Elkton Crash Died
An Elkton woman injured in a crash on Sunday died late last night, police said this afternoon.
Sgt. Les Tyler of the Virginia State Police say Ashley Dawn Hammer, 25, died at Virginia Medical Center in Charlottesville.
Emergency crews responded to the crash about 4:30 p.m. in the 18000 block of Naked Creek Road, about five miles north of Elkton.
The crash involved a 2000 Ford pickup truck and a 1986 Honda motorcycle.
The driver of the motorcycle, Marvin Ray Hamilton Jr., 25, of Elkton, was taken to Sentara RMH Medical Center. He was charged with reckless driving. The investigation is ongoing and additional charges could be filed, Tyler said.
His female passenger, Hammer, was flown to U.Va.
There were no injuries to the two people in the pickup truck.
Several beer cans littered the road at the scene of the crash.
“Alcohol was involved,” Tyler said.
In addition to the state police, the Rockingham County Sheriff’s Office, Rockingham Fire and Rescue, Elkton Volunteer Fire Company and Elkton Emergency Squad responded.
