HARRISONBURG — Harrisonburg High School’s new principal, Cynthia Prieto, will hold a meet-and-greet for the community from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday.
Prieto succeeds Tracy Shaver, a Colorado native, who was hired in April 2011 to replace Irene Reynolds, who retired as the school's principal in February of that year. Shaver became Harrisonburg City Public Schools’ executive director of finance on July 1 when D.D. Dawson retired.
Prieto was an assistant principal at a Fairfax County high school. She was born and raised in Colombia and may be HCPS’ first bilingual principal.
The meet-and-greet event coincides with registration day, which will be held from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday and 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Friday.
