HARRISONBURG — All 25 kids on board a bus coming from South River Elementary School are safe and on their way home after their Rockingham County Public Schools bus backed into a parked pickup truck Wednesday afternoon.
The school bus backed into the truck along Jackson Way in the Grottoes area at 3:40 p.m., according to Superintendent Carol Fenn.
Fire and rescue personnel, transportation staff from RCPS and Larry Shifflett, principal of South River Elementary School, responded to the scene. All children were checked for injuries before the bus continued on its way.
Fenn described the incident as a “mishap” and said the bus driver will continue with the route. She estimated the ordeal added less than 30 minutes of travel time to students’ trips home.
