LURAY ― The Page County School Board during a closed session Wednesday morning unanimously accepted the retirement of Superintendent Donna Power. Her retirement comes nearly a year before her 30-month contract was set to expire on June 30, 2015.

“At this time, I am retiring from Page County Public Schools, effective immediately,” Dr. Power said in an Aug. 6 letter submitted to the school board. “In consideration of the start of the new school year just around the corner, I feel it is in the best interest of the school division for the change of leadership to be put in place as soon as possible.”

Noting that he feels the resignation letter “covers everything that needs to be said,” chairman of the school board, Dr. Morgan Phenix added that the letter was accepted “after an extensive discussion in closed session.”
