UPDATE: Luray Bank Robbed

Sheriff's deputies say a man robbed the Pioneer Bank in Luray this morning.

Page County Sheriff John Thomas said police were on scene within minutes.

"We locked it down pretty quickly," said Thomas, adding that the bank is located in a very busy downtown. "We hope we have him contained."

Thomas said the branch is located at 800 E. Main St. Police have secured the area with crime scene tape.

He said the suspect entered the bank at about 11:20 a.m., handed the teller a note demanding money. He claimed to be armed, but no weapon was presented, Thomas said.

The suspect fled on foot. He is described as a 5 foot, 5 inch-tall white man. He is wearing a blue baseball cap, blue T-shirt, black windbreaker, blue jeans and black boots.

A SWAT team has been placed on standby.

Thomas said the investigation is being worked by the sheriff's office, Luray Police Department, Virginia State Police and the FBI.
