Daily News-Record

A Harrisonburg woman sustained life-threatening injuries when she was hit by a car around 6 p.m. tonight

The woman, whose name has not been released, was struck near a bus stop on University Boulevard while she was attempting to cross the street while traffic was flowing, according to Lt. Roger Knott. She was taken by ambulance to Sentara RMH Medical Center, but it was unknown whether she would be flown to the University of Virginia Medical Center in Charlottesville.

One northbound vehicle stopped to let her cross, and a southbound car hit her, he said. The drivers' names were not immediately available and Knott said no citations had been issued. No one appeared to be driving recklessly, he said, but Harrisonburg police were still investigating the cause of the crash. Police blocked off a large portion of University Boulevard near the intersection with East Market Street.

Traffic was rerouted through nearby parking lots.
