A high-ranking Harrisonburg police officer who wrecked his department-issued Ford Explorer, resulting in a four-vehicle, chain-reaction crash last month, was cited this week.
On Tuesday, Lt. Kurt Boshart was charged with following too closely in connection with the June 27 crash near 590 E. Market St. The charge is an infraction, punishable by no more than a fine.
Police say that when a vehicle stopped to make a left turn, the two vehicles immediately behind came to a stop, but a third driver, Boshart, did not.
Boshart’s vehicle sustained about $12,000 in damage, while the other vehicles had a combined total of $9,200 damage, according to police.
No one was seriously injured in the crash.
Boshart previously led HPD’s criminal investigations division and is now one of two lieutenants overseeing the patrol division.
