The town of Shenandoah will be holding a public hearing on proposed tax rate increases on April 8 at 7 p.m. at town hall, 426 First St.
Council is proposing a 2 cent increase in several taxes, including real estate for mobile homes, personal property, farm machinery and machinery and tools.
The real estate tax on mobile homes would increase from 29 to 31 cents per $100 of assessed value.
The personal property, farm machinery and machinery and tools taxes would each increase from 40 to 42 cents per $100 of assessed value.
The town hasn’t raised real estate and personal property taxes since 2005.
The public hearing on these proposed tax rate increases comes on the heels of Town Council’s plans to raise water and sewer rates from $16.65 to $18.65 for the first 3,000 gallons used or treated. That proposal was made as part of an effort to deal with a shortfall in the town’s utilities fund.
