Herring, Obenshain Race To Be Decided Before Christmas
A Richmond judge ruled today that the recount in Virginia’s historically close attorney general race will begin on Dec. 16, according to the Associated Press.
The ruling came in a preliminary hearing for the recount, which was requested by Republican candidate Mark Obenshain. The Harrisonburg state senator lost to state Sen. Mark Herring, the Democratic candidate, by just 165 votes out of 2.2 million cast in the Nov. 5 election.
Major jurisdictions in the Commonwealth, including Fairfax County, will start counting votes on Dec. 16, while other counties and cities, including Harrisonburg and Rockingham County, will start either on that day or Dec. 17. Counting is likely to go into the 18th as well, the AP reports.
The Daily News-Record will have more on this story in Thursday's print and web editions.
