HARRISONBURG — Less than two years after it poured its first tequila, Rick’s Cantina is closing its doors.
On Friday, Sean Pugh, co-owner of the Tex-Mex restaurant and tequila bar at 14 E. Water St., said that Sunday would be the last day Rick’s would serve customers.
News of the closing was posted on the restaurant’s Facebook page on Monday.
Pugh, Mark Newsome and Ann Marie Coe, who have operated the Joshua Wilton House restaurant and inn for 10 years, opened Rick’s in October 2012.
“There are multiple reasons,” Pugh said when asked why the eatery was closing. “My business partners and I had to sit down and look at the pros and cons of keeping Rick’s open, and unfortunately the cons outweighed the pros. We’re going to focus our energies on Joshua Wilton House.”
