HARRISONBURG — A Rockingham County grand jury indicted a Grottoes man who previously sent sexually explicit text messages to a 14-year-old girl on charges of failing to register as a sex offender.
Marvin Roy King, 46, pleaded guilty in August 2011 to one felony count of indecent liberties with a child. He was sentenced to eight years in prison with all but two years suspended.
On Monday in Rockingham County Circuit Court, grand jurors indicted him on two felony counts of failing to register as a sex offender. He’s also charged with violating the terms of his probation.
The initial investigation into King began when the girl’s mother called the Rockingham County Sheriff's Office on Jan. 7, 2011. The woman told deputies that a man had been sending graphic messages to her daughter through the Internet and by cellphone.
Prosecutors say the man created a Facebook page that stated he was 23 and then “trolled” the social networking site looking for girls.
Following his indictment on Monday, King appeared in circuit court. Judge Bruce Albertson scheduled King to appear in court Wednesday for either a plea hearing or a trial date.
King is being held in the Rockingham County Jail without bond.
