UPDATE: Bond Hearing Set For Shooting Defendant
Deputies Say Fort Valley Man Killed Another Man In Dispute
WOODSTOCK - A Fort Valley man accused of shooting and killing another man last week appeared briefly in Shenandoah County General District Court this morning.
Daniel Scott Harvey, 33, of 600 Stephens Lane, was arrested on April 1 and charged with felony manslaughter.
During the hearing, Judge Dale Houff scheduled Harvey for a bond her on Thursday and preliminary hearing for June 27.
On March 31, sheriff's deputies were dispatched to Harvey's residence shortly after 7 p.m. to investigate a reported shooting.
Deputies say the victim, Harry Grant Nelson III, 36, of Winchester, was shot once in the torso.
He was taken to Shenandoah Memorial Hospital, where he died a short time later.
Deputies say Harvey suffered "trauma" to his head and torso, but those injuries were sustained after the shooting. It's unclear how Harvey was hurt, but deputies say a small group of people were at the home at the time of the crime.
A domestic-related incident involving another person sparked the crime, deputies say, but they would not provide further details on the relationship between that person, the suspect and the victim, or what type of incident preceded the shooting.
The type of weapon used to shoot Nelson was not disclosed.
Harvey is being held without bond in Shenandoah County Jail.
