Virginia state troopers continue to search for a Shenandoah man who they say took off from a police checkpoint over the Independence Day weekend.
Sgt. Les Tyler of the Virginia State Police said the incident began around 8 p.m. Friday near the intersection of McGaheysville and Pineville roads.
He said a 2002 Chevy Blazer, driven by Kevin Dale Miller, Jr. 21, stopped at the checkpoint, had a brief conversation with a trooper and took off.
Police then began a pursuit, which lasted about 20 minutes. During the chase, Tyler said, Miller’s car collided with a trooper’s car.
Tyler said Miller traveled on several roads before baling on Bontz Lane in McGaheysville and ran into a field. Police searched area but couldn’t locate him. They don’t believe he is still in the immediate area.
The trooper that started the pursuit obtained warrants for Miller’s arrest. Miller is charged with felony hit and run, felony eluding, misdemeanor reckless driving, misdemeanor hit and run, and misdemeanor driving with a suspended license.
A photo of Miller was not available, Tyler said.
