NEW: Taylor Bessick Plans To Transfer From JMU
The Sophomore Forward Was Unhappy With His Role
Taylor Bessick has been granted his release from the James Madison basketball team and intends to transfer, the sophomore forward confirmed Monday.
"I felt like I don't fit into the offensive system here like I once did," he said. "I thought I fit in, but I don't. I think I need a year off anyway just to develop and get stronger and get better."
Bessick, a 6-foot-9, 240-pound power forward, started 30 games this season for the 11-20 Dukes, averaging 6.3 points and 4.7 rebounds per contest.
"He asked for his release and he wants to evaluate his options. I agreed to give him that release and that opportunity," JMU coach Matt Brady said. "Right now, to me, the door is still open for Taylor to return to JMU and continue on the path that we had set forth for him."
