HARRISONBURG — The State Board for Community Colleges voted unanimously today to raise tuition costs for the 2014-15 school year, according to a press release from Virginia’s Community Colleges.
In-state students at Blue Ridge Community College in Weyers Cave, and most of the state’s other community colleges will pay $6 more per credit hour, bringing the new cost for one credit hour to $136. That translates to an extra $180 per year for a full-time course load.
Tuition and fees will also increase $6 per credit hour for out-of-state students, for a total of $330.60.
Colleges will use the tuition increase to improve student services, including financial aid counseling and academic coaching, the release said. The extra funds also will pay for rising employee health insurance and retirement costs, utility and technology costs and operating new facilities.
