NEW: Two Teachers Finalists For National Award

HARRISONBURG — Two of the state’s five finalists for a prestigious math and science teaching award are Rockingham County Public Schools teachers.

Susan Eckenrode, of John Wayland Elementary School, and Eric Imbrescia, of Peak View Elementary School, are finalists for the Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching.

Eckenrode was nominated for science, and Imbrescia was nominated for math.

The award is administered by the National Science Foundation on behalf of the White House. Winners receive $10,000 and a trip to Washington, D.C., for professional development and recognition activities.

The five Virginia finalists were selected from 50 nominees. President Barack Obama is expected to announce the 108 winners next year.
