HARRISONBURG — The parent company of Union First Market Bank is asking shareholders to approve a new corporate name — one that’s familiar to longtime investors and bank personnel.
Union First Market Bankshares Corp. wants to revert to its old name, Union Bankshares Corp.
The Richmond-based company, which has nearly a dozen Union First Market branches in the central Valley, including two in Harrisonburg, would then change the name of its branches to Union Bank & Trust.
The firm operated under the Union Bankshares name for 15 years but changed it to Union First Market Bankshares in 2010 following its acquisition of First market Bank.
Shareholders will consider the change at their annual meeting in April, according to a regulatory filing on Tuesday.
In addition to Union First Market Bank, the company is also the holding company for StellarOne Bank, whose area branches include two in Harrisonburg and one in Grottoes.
In all, Union First Market and StellarOne have a combined 145 branches throughout Virginia.
