The Virginia Department of Transportation issued a travel alert this afternoon warning motorists to avoid travel late tonight and on Monday.
Heavy wet snow is forecasted to arrive in the Harrisonburg area late tonight, with six inches or more anticipated.
VDOT recommends residents to shelter in place during the storm. Crews will work 12-hour shifts, 24-hours a day, according to VDOT. The plans is to make least one pass on all roads within 48 hours after the storm ends, according to transportation officials.
Similar to the storm earlier this month, crews will not be pre-treating the roads due because the storm is predicted to begin with rain. VDOT states that temperatures later in the week are forecasted to be above freezing which will allow the snow to melt quicker.
