NEW: Victim Of Christmas Eve Shooting Named
Suspect Still On The Loose
HARRISONBURG — A spokeswoman for the Harrisonburg Police Department has confirmed the name of the victim in Tuesday’s shooting death off Commerce Drive. Traman T. Turner, 27, of Harrisonburg was shot at least once in the parking lot of a townhouse subdivision shortly before 1:30 p.m. on Christmas Eve. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police are still looking for the suspect in the case, Delano D. Fitz, also 27. Fitz is described as a 5-foot, 4-inch tall black man weighing 168 pounds. HPD obtained arrest warrants for the Fitz for first degree murder, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, and the use of a firearm in the commission of a felony.
It’s not yet clear how police have linked Fitz to the Turner’s death, or what evidence they found to implicate him. It’s also not clear what prompted the shooting, or how, or whether, the victim and the suspect knew one another.
Police are asking for assistance from members of the community in locating Fitz, who is still considered armed and dangerousl, according to investigators.
