NEW: Walmart Asks Timberville For Rezoning

Proposed Site 16 Acres Fronting South Main

HARRISONBURG — Walmart is seeking to build a superstore in Timberville, Town Manager Austin Garber said Monday morning.

The 128,000-square-foot building would sit on about 16 acres bounded by South Main Street, Va. 211 and American Legion Drive. Walmart filed a rezoning request for the project late last week, Garber said, and it includes general retail, pharmacy, grocery, garden center and fuel stations.

If approved, between 200 to 300 jobs will be created, he said.

The matter will be up for a joint public hearing between the Timberville Town Council and Planning Commission sometime in August.

Walmart has two superstores in Harrisonburg and a distribution center off Interstate 81 in Mount Crawford.
