Amanda Sheffer, 21, was indicted Monday on three felony counts of grand larceny.

A Rockingham County grand jury indicted a city woman accused of breaking into cars at a local fitness center.

Amanda Sheffer, 21, was indicted Monday on three felony counts of grand larceny.

Following her indictment, she appeared in Rockingham County Circuit Court.

Judge Bruce Albertson scheduled a plea hearing for June 6.

Police say the break-ins happened at the Sentara RMH Wellness Center, 2500 Wellness Drive, located off Stone Spring Road, a during several days in January.

In some of the cases, police say, the victims' car keys were taken from inside the center where patrons can place them while exercising. Police say it's unclear how many vehicles were broken into, but electronics and miscellaneous items were reported stolen.

Rachael Compton, 20, of Harrisonburg, also has been charged in the case. Compton, who is facing a felony count of receiving stolen property and a charge of misdemeanor marijuana possession, is scheduled to appear in Rockingham County General District Court tomorrow for a preliminary hearing.

On Aug. 19, Sheffer pleaded guilty to four felony counts of grand larceny and received a roughly eight-year suspended sentence.

Sheffer also faces a probation violation. If she is found in violation of her probation, Albertson could revoke some or all of that suspended sentence.

She is being held at the Rockingham County Jail without bond.
