HARRISONBURG — The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory for much of the central Valley as sleet and freezing rain are expected to move into the area in the next few hours.
Forecasters say heavy rain and wintry precipitation will spread into Virginia and the other Mid-Atlantic state today.
The storm consists of remnants of the blizzard that crippled much of the Texas panhandle and Oklahoma on Monday.
The weather service says rain will change to freezing rain today at elevations above 1,000 feet, which includes Harrisonburg. The city and much of the Valley is about 1,300 feet above sea level or higher. With temperatures hovering in the low to mid 30s, roads could remain slick with patches of ice throughout the day.
