HARRISONBURG — A Page County High School teacher has been charged with one felony count of taking indecent liberties with a child by a person in a custodial or supervisory position, according to police.

Christopher Robert Ritchie Jr., who goes by his nickname, “C.J.”, was arrested on Monday by Page County investigator Mike Wagoner of the Northern Virginia and Washington D.C. Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force.

While the investigation began in Page County, police say the offense occurred in Rockingham County, according to a statement released today by the task force.

Details of the case, including what the allegations entail and when they were made, are not known at this time but police say the alleged crime did not takes place during a school function. The age and sex of the alleged victim could not be independently confirmed.

The charge against Ritchie involves one child, police say, and they know of no other victims at this point. But the statement from ICAC said the investigation will continue “until all known leads are exhausted in an effort to bring Ritchie to justice and ensure that if other victims exist, the appropriate charges are placed.”

Ritchie’s employment status with Page County Schools is not known at this time.

The Daily News-Record will have a complete report on this developing story in Tuesday’s print and web editions.
