HARRISONBURG — The portion of Bruce Street that was closed for several hours today is back open after city officials concluded their assessment of damage to the Water Street parking deck.
On Wednesday night, a fire marshal noticed a column on the deck had some type of damage, but people still had access to and were using the area as part of the July 4 celebration downtown. Bruce Street from Liberty to Main streets was then closed this morning, although the parking deck — except for the first-level row closest to Main Street — remained open and accessible from Water Street.
Officials found that some of the bricks that make up one of the deck's columns had jutted out from the column, raising fears that the structure might be unstable. The damage has since been repaired.
