UPDATE: Pastor Charged With Sex Offenses
HARRISONBURG — A Rockingham County pastor was arrested Friday evening on seven sex-related crimes against a minor.
Leonard Leroy “Sonny” Layman, 69, a youth pastor at Spring Creek Church of the Nazarene in Bridgewater, has been charged with four counts of taking indecent liberties with a child and three counts of aggravated sexual battery, all felonies, Sheriff Bryan Hutcheson said Monday morning.
Layman is being held without bond at the Rockingham County Jail.
He was fired from his position with the church on Wednesday after confessing to having "inappropriate conduct" with a girl outside of Spring Creek, pastor Tony Martin said. Police were already investigating at that time, he said.
"We're hoping and praying it was isolated," Martin said.
Layman was a youth pastor for 17 years.
