HARRISONBURGA man was dragged over a median by a pickup truck in the parking lot of a gas station in the 1700 block of East Market Street around 5:30 this evening, witnesses say. Harrisonburg police were still investigating at the scene and were unavailable for comment as of 8 p.m.

Witnesses reported that two men, including the one hit by the truck, and a woman began arguing in the parking lot of the Royal Food Mart at 1770 E. Market St. Then, witnesses said, one of the men got into a Dodge Ram 1500 parked behind a Jeep Wrangler, where the victim was standing.

The driver of the truck accelerated, witnesses said, hitting the other man and dragging him over a median in the parking lot, leaving the victim laying a few feet on the other side. The door of the Jeep also was knocked off, according to witnesses.

The truck drove through the car wash located at the gas station and stopped on the other side, witnesses said.

It is unclear if the truck’s driver remained on the scene on his own, although officers had detained a man in a police cruiser. It could not yet be confirmed whether he was the driver of the pickup.

The extent and nature of the injuries suffered by the other man were unavailable, but he was seen being taken away on a stretcher by a Harrisonburg Rescue Squad ambulance.

One witness said the woman involved in the incident told him she is dating the victim and formerly dated the driver of the truck.

This story will be updated as more details become available.
