HARRISONBURG — Messages on electronic devices belonging to missing James Madison University professor Harriet Cobb are leading police to treat the investigation as a possible suicide.
“It’s still a missing person [case], but the investigation is leaning toward a possible suicide,” said Sgt. Mike King with the Virginia State Police. “There are indicators.”
Harriet Cobb, 61, a professor of graduate psychology, was reported missing by family Sunday.
Her car was discovered Monday morning in the Mountain Grove area of Bath County, near Back Creek on Va. 39 according to law enforcement officials.
Search efforts were put on hold Thursday and will resume Friday when water conditions are more favorable.
“We’re focusing on water and ground search along the banks of the creek,” King said.
