HARRISONBURG — Police arrested a 14-year-old Harrisonburg boy in connection with the armed robbery of a convenience store early Monday morning.
According to the Harrisonburg Police Department, officers responded to a robbery call at the Sheetz gas station, 798 E. Market St., about 2:30 a.m.
Lt. Chris Rush, the department’s lead investigator, said the teen is accused of entering the store, displaying a handgun and demanding money and cigarettes. Witnesses told police the suspect then left the store and fled on foot east on Country Club Road.
When officers arrived, they set up a perimeter around the area to search for the suspect, who was wearing all black clothing, including black gloves and a black ski mask.
A Rockingham County sheriff’s deputy assisting in the search located the suspect nearby. Cash, the items stolen from the store and a weapon were found near the boy, Rush said.
This is the second gas station robbery in recent weeks.
On Oct. 20, police say, a Florida man robbed the Liberty gas station on South High Street. HPD arrested Roland Edward Arellano, 22, near the scene shortly after the robbery.
Police say the suspect in that robbery told the clerk that he had a gun, but did not display one. Police did not say if a weapon was found on Arellano.
