Principal Search Continues

Posted: April 18, 2014

HARRISONBURG — The application window has closed in the search for a new Harrisonburg High School principal, but a match has not been made yet.

More than a dozen candidates applied for the position, according to Harrisonburg City Public Schools Superintendent Scott Kizner. He said he hopes to make a recommendation to the Harrisonburg City School Board in May or early June.

Current Principal Tracy Shaver will be moving to the division’s central office to become executive director of finance once D.D. Dawson retires on July 1.

“I’m looking for a few things,” he said. “A very child-centered principal that would make decisions based on the best interest of students, a principal that would work collaboratively with their staff and encourage staff to be part of the decision-making process to …  improve learning.”

The new principal will make a starting salary between $93,200 and $116,800, according to the salary scales approved by the School Board on Tuesday night. His or her exact salary will depend on experience and credentials.
