Searchers Looking For Missing JMU Professor Find Body

State Police Say No Positive ID Yet Made

HARRISONBURG — Law enforcement officials searching for James Madison University professor Harriet Cobb in Bath County discovered a body on Friday.

Virginia State Police Lt. Rex Taylor, who works in the Bureau of Criminal Investigation, said the body is a woman’s, but no identification has been made.

“The body will be transported to the medical examiner’s office pending positive identification,” he said.

On Sunday Cobb’s family reported her missing. According to law enforcement, the 61-year-old Harrisonburg woman was possibly suicidal. Her car was discovered Monday morning in the Mountain Grove area of Bath County, near Back Creek on Va. 39.
