Heatwole Leads Bridgewater, 6-5

BRIDGEWATER — Shortstop Daniel Heatwole went 2-for-4 with a bases-loaded triple and a double and scored on a wild pitch as Bridgewater edged Elkton 6-5 in a Rockingham County Baseball League game Friday night.

The Reds improved to 9-5; the Blue Sox fell to 8-8.

Bridgewater right-hander Robert Gallet struck out four and walked six, allowing four runs on nine hits. Josh Mitchell pitched the ninth for his second save.

Designated hitter Andrew Bradley hit a solo home run in the second inning that put Elkton ahead 2-1. Second baseman Kyle Weston went 1-for-2 with two RBIs, two walks and a sacrifice fly.

Clover Hill 5, Montezuma 2: Catcher Devon Snow went 3-for-3 with two RBIs and left-hander Andrew Armstrong gave up one hit in 7 1/3 innings as Clover Hill defeated Montezuma 5-2 in a Rockingham County Baseball League game Friday night at Buck Bowman Park.

The Bucks improved to 13-2; the Braves fell to 5-13.

Left fielder Grant French went 2-for-4 with an RBI and two runs for Clover Hill. Armstrong allowed two unearned runs, finishing with six strikeouts and three walks.

Right fielder Johnny Mason and catcher Ryan Hedrick each had an RBI in a two-run eighth inning for Montezuma.

New Market 8, Broadway 2: Right-hander Patrick Vankemper, a recent Liberty University graduate, went seven innings with 14 strikeouts to lead New Market past Broadway 8-2 in a Rockingham County Baseball League game Friday night in Broadway.

The Shockers improved to 5-10; the Bruins dropped to 2-12.

Vankemper gave up one earned run on just two hits.

Designated hitter P.J. Hinson went 2-for-5 with a double and an RBI for New Market. Broadway designated hitter Nathan Wisman had two of the team’s three hits and an RBI.
