RCPS Issues Guidance For School Lunch Aid
Applications Accepted During Upcoming Year
HARRISONBURG — Rockingham County Public Schools has announced that families who need free or reduced-price lunches for their children may apply at any point during the upcoming school year.
Eligibility is determined by income and household size. For example, a family of four making $31,005 per year or less may qualify for free meals, while families with income of $31,005.01 to $44,123 may qualify for reduced-price meals.
Children who live in households receiving Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program benefits or Temporary Assistance for Needy Families may be automatically eligible.
Foster children who are the legal responsibility of a welfare agency or court are automatically eligible regardless of the income of those in the household where they reside.
In its announcement, the school division said application forms will be distributed to all households, and they will also be available in the principal’s office at each school and at the central office at 100 Mount Clinton Pike in Harrisonburg.
Decisions regarding free and reduced price eligibility may be appealed to Rockingham County Schools Superintendent Carol Fenn, who can be reached at 564-3230.
