Posted: March 24, 2014

The public will have a chance to speak out tonight on the Rockingham County Public Schools’ proposed budget for fiscal 2015. The School Board will hold a public hearing during its regular meeting at 7 p.m. today at Lacey Spring Elementary School.

Superintendent Carol Fenn’s recommended budget for the 2014-15 school year weighs in at $121.6 million and assumes an allocation of $54.4 million from Rockingham County, which is about $1.9 million more than this year’s local contribution. The budget as a whole is about $5.3 million more than the current year’s spending plan.

Fiscal 2015 runs from July 1 through June 30, 2015.

Also at the meeting, the board is expected to take action on several policy revisions, including the addition of a bullying prevention policy. The board also plans to take action on an Advanced Placement, or AP government textbook committee.

Information items scheduled for the meeting include: a special education plan for 2014-2015, school fees, alternative assessments and religious exemptions and homeschooling.
