BRCC Hosting Farm To Table Conference

Registration is now open for a two-day conference at Blue Ridge Community College that will focus on local foods and regional food systems.
The 2013 Virginia Farm to Table Conference, which will take place Dec. 4 and 5 in the Plecker Workforce Center at BRCC, is hosted by Virginia Cooperative Extension and the USDA’s Natural Resources Conservation Service. Participants must register by Nov. 29.
Individuals interested in community economic development, soil health and human nutrition, creating regional food systems, supporting local agriculture and conservation of natural resources, among other topics, are encouraged to attend.
“Community and economic resilience depends on healthy food and vibrant farms,” said Eric Bendfeldt, an extension specialist for community viability with the Virginia Cooperative Extension, in a press release. “This conference aims to advance Virginia’s local agriculture and cultivate greater resilience through community and institutional involvement in regional food systems.”
Topics that will be discussed at the conference include strengthening regional food infrastructure, soil and human health and community and economic development, as well as other topics about sustainable food systems.
