UPDATE: County Schools, JMU, BRCC Cancel Classes

City System Already Off Monday

Rockingham County Schools, James Madison University and Blue Ridge Community College have canceled Monday's classes due the threat posed by Hurricane Sandy.

As of 10 p.m. tonight, none of the area’s other colleges and universities had announced plans to cancel classes.

Harrisonburg City Schools was already scheduled to be closed today because of a professional development day.

The storm is expected to strike a glancing blow to the central Valley, but potentially damaging winds and heavy rains are still expected to churn through the region on Monday.

The Daily News-Record will update school closings and news of the storm and any local damage as details become available throughout the day on Monday and into Tuesday.
